Kirghiz Pile Woven Bagface
This bag face was made by the Kirghiz peoples of Central Asia, and originally would have had an integral flat woven back, just as with the Turkmen bag faces. It was used for the transportation and storage of goods or materials.
The design bears a close resemblance to the designs found on the bag faces of the neighboring Turkmen tribes, which raises the questions of the origin of the design and the manner of transference.

This bag face has a distinctive and characteristic structure which, when viewed from the back, presents a ribbed appearance that is unmistakable.
It is my understanding that large pile woven bags of the Kirghiz are quite rare here in the west, as they are, in general, regarded as sub commercial in quality by their purveyors. I don't believe there is anything sub commercial about the quality of colors in this weaving. It is quite beautiful.
