It is hard to imagine that at one point in time Wisconsin Ave was the road west; beginning at the waterfront in Georgetown and in turn leading north to Frederick and hence to the frontier settlement of Hagerstown, as commemorated by the "Madonna Of The Trail" memorial at left.
